Unhappy What's a good henchie group? (Tahnnaki Mission)

For most quests, and the few non-populated missions, I like to use henchmen. Henchies in the prophocies campaigns were very useful 95% of the time. In Cantha, that all seems to change. I'm stuck at Tahnnaki Temple and can't figuire a good hencie group out. My first semi-ok henchie group was:
Me (A/Mo), the two fighters, the mage, illusionist/vile, spirit, and 2 healers.

That one tended to die quickly. Or at least I did, and the monks would sit and do nothing. It especially ticked me off in Tahnnaki at the 5th boss when it was 2 monks, a spirit, an assassin, and mhenlo and togo vs the boss and 3 monks. For ten minutes, noone on either side died, and noone was rezzed. Mission over. Bad.

For most mission, such as Tahnnaki, groups slowly form...and wait 20 minutes for one non-afk healer to join a party. Esp. hard for an assassin to join up with the bad name they seem to carry. Then people make mistakes and die. So, I'm trying to use henchies for this one cuz I'm tired of waiting in this deserted wasteland for groups who can't fight out of a bag.

My last group had much more success. I took myself, the 2 fighters, either the mage/earth or a cutthroat, 2 spirits, and 2 monks. There was plenty of healing going on and I didn't die much. But...they only last till the start of the 6th boss when the @$%ing cutthroat shadow steps to the unaggroed group and draws 500 enemies to us.

Now, I always read of people "Beating the mission three times with henchmen to get past the 'bug'", yet I cannot push past the group around the 6th boss. Has anyone come up with a good hencie group that tends to pull their wieght, or better, a group that worked for them in Tahnnaki? I've been stuck on this mission for a week, and it's really getting the better of me. Thanks for any help. Also, any tips for this highly frustrating mission would be much appreciated.

I go through all the missions with henchmen, too, and I got stuck on this one, as well. You're actually doing better than I did at first. ^_^

I made it through with... let's see... Devona and Silverwing (who died CONSTANTLY from the Guardians), Jamei and Sister Tai, Zho the archer, Professor Gai, and Headmaster Vhang (elementalist).

Now, the thing is, I don't think it really made a huge difference who I took. It seemed to me, after twice of dying on about the 5th or 6th spirit, that something more drastic than a change of henchmen was going to have to take place.

I'm a dedicated Beastmaster Ranger/Monk, and I like it that way. I don't really swap my build around on a whim. I decided to be daring on this one, though, and changed my secondary to Necromancer and took one skill: Summon Bone Horror.

Suddenly, the mission was entirely do-able. It gives those hoards of monsters something to target OTHER than your healers. :P

I know a lot of people wouldn't think that "change your class and playstyle" is an acceptable solution. Usually I wouldn't either. In this case, though, it worked like a charm, so I thought I'd share.

Good luck!!

Oh... and don't stop to read the inscriptions. You can do that later. heheh

Don't take melee henchies for that mission. Use all casters/ranged attackers.

Should be easy enough like that

Finshed that mission today with all ranged henchies cept an assassin. She died pretty much the same amount as Eve.

I was using my Barrage Ranger setup I like to run when I'm exploring.

Finished the mission with about 3 minutes to go. Overall just under 40 min.

I seem to get into groups better when I advertise I am a "non-retarded A/Mo lfg"

I henched this one as an A/N a number of days back... took me a few tries. I took Silverwing as my only melee, 2 healers, and 4 ranged attackers. The trick is to get your pulls right -- you can often aggro the Temple Guardians by themselves, the Afflicted by themselves, and the Bound Spirit last. Splitting up the pulls makes it a LOT easier. Finally, don't close in to melee with the Ele boss -- just let your henchies take care of her after all the Afflicted are down or she'll nuke you for a -15% DP faster than those henchie healers can react.

wow, I'm a dedicated Beast Master/Monk too and was also having a serious thought of Beast Master/Necromancer ..the problem was the energy management! how did you manage yours? I was thinking about 5-6 BM skills with enraged lunge ^_^ and 2 death skills; one is bone horor and the other is soul feast...

Well that was my inexperienced thought ...

infact i find this the only acceptable solution, you ARE supposed to modify your build according to the current situation. Why do you think anet put
Senji in there :P. you can switch profession faster and easier than ever..

you cant always get away with only one build

as for henchies,i usually take only one melee, either Silverwing or Lucas, if you are careful with drawing aggro, it works pretty nice

I henched this one with my monk a few days ago. I didn't take any of the assassin henchies--they tend to die a lot. I took the two warriors, Aidan, and a mix of casters.

Wow, thanks for all the replies. I was actually expecting a couple of these to say something like "Henchies suck and so do you", but the nice replies are good to hear

I just finished the mission in 35 mins using the 2 melees, earth, 2 spirits, and 2 healers. I only died once at the 7th boss when the group of mesmers did some spell all at once. I used the pulling trick told, and found the trick with henchie pulling is to keep running away and the henchies will follow, and usually, the enemy. That was probably the single most helpful thing. Thanks for all the help

I use only caster & archer henchies in every mission except in Imperial Sanctum. Makes pulling easy & no problems in any mission whatsoever.

i have henched it with both my assassin and ranger taking talon and the rest casters and the other ranger.
the problem i found was that trying to draw a small group talon would go and agro the rest of them

My other character is a Necromancer, so I'm very familiar with the skills, but I don't really know much about using a Ranger/Necro.

Ferocious Strike gets rid of ALL your normal energy problems, but still, with a total of 27 energy, a 25 energy spell like Summon Bone Fiend just isn't practical in combat. Bone Horror worked fine, like I said, but even at that, I was pretty much reduced to summoning Horrors while my pet did Ferocious Strikes. I might as well not've been carrying a bow, since all my time was spent in casting animations.

Those two skills you mentioned are pretty nice ones to use, though.

I'm not trying to put you off the idea, (my experience is limited to one thirty-minute quest) but I'm not planning on staying a R/N, myself.

R/A, on the other hand... some of those skill combos are NICE! ^_^

Oh, and congratulations, Bash. Glad you made it through!

Have you guys noticed that you're all suggesting pretty much the same hench?

This isn't surprising, though. Here was my group when I accidentally completed the mission:

Me - E/Me elemesmer build with two cap sigs because I'm nuts. Ineptitude and Clumsiness FTW.
Sister Tai (ughhhhh)
Jamei
Devona (died all the time)
Talon (also died all the time)
Su (kaboom!)
Zho (skateboarding)
Kai Ying (wards are delicious when he's alive)
Mhenlo
Togo

So yeah, the tanks died over and over, I rezzed with a Rez Sig which recharged after every boss, and the hardest one was the Monk boss. Took forever because the tanks were dead, couldn't kill her until I rezzed one.

I "accidentally" beat it because the whole point for me going in there with hench was to cap the Mesmer and Ele elites. Decided to keep going and eventually made it.
